For the first time but, unsurprisingly, not the last time, we hear from The Beatles in this goRadio.Live Top 30 Songs of the 1960s.

Arguably one of the best ever double-A side singles of all time, the single presented Penny Lane on one side and Strawberry Fields Forever on the other. Full of imagery in the way that we came to expect of The Beatles from Sgt Pepper onwards, Penny Lane was the first Beatles single since Please Please Me not to reach number 1 in the the UK.

The other great things about this single is that the two sides show both the genius and the creative contrasts of two of the most influential songwriters of the 20th century – this one by McCartney and Strawberry Fields Forever by Lennon.

And so the big question is this – which of the two songs is my favourite. If it is this one, we’ll sail through to number 1 without seeing Strawberry Fields Forever in the countdown. On the other hand … watch this space!
