So, if you have been listening to my radio programs for a while, you’ll know that I have a couple of favourite female performers from the 60’s and 70’s – Dusty Springfield and Marcia Hines. When you get a song that was recorded by one and then covered by the other, it obviously has to be included in a countdown like this one. The fact that it stayed in the top 40 for 22 weeks tells you something about the quality of this track.

I don’t think we have a had a better female performer in Australia – and yes, I know she wasn’t born here – but what an amazing voice. And I while she has had some hits with more up-tempo songs (Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees, You, etc), I think that Marcia’s voice is most spectacularly showcased when she is singing slower tempo songs like this.

It is a difficult choice between her version and Dusty’s but I think given the power of Marcia’s voice, I’m giving her the nod in a photo finish.
